Please give a brief opinion by replying to the discussion below, it's about the relationship between MPS and MRP:

MRP V.S. MPS, Materials Requirement Planning V.S. a Master Production Schedule. It seems like they are on in the same from the outside looking in, while there are some differences in the two they actually play off each other to help create successful product lines for companies.

A MPS, Master Production Schedule, is exactly what it sounds like. It is the schedule for production, lets say a company makes and sells five different products, and that’s it. How do they know when and how much to make of each part? That is where the MPS come in to play, it is a schedule of what to build, when to build and how much. The MPS is based off and developed from forecasts customer order for items, safety stock and internal orders. The MRP is used to ensure the availability of products, components and the materials needed for planned production. All while maintaining the lowest possible inventory levels. And without the MPS, the MRP really has no direction on what to purchase or stock for production.
