Learning Outcome 1: Calculate probabilities of different types of events and compute probability distributions.
Learning Outcome 2: Apply different techniques of sampling.
Learning Outcome 3: Compute probabilities using discrete probability distributions and continuous probability distributions.
Assignment Objective
To assess learning emphasized on the development of students' ability to use statistics concepts for
finding probability distribution and solving problems.
Assignment Tasks
1) Task 1
Based on your collected data on the survey of assignment 1 fill the following table and then answer the questions below
If a student selected at random, find the probability that:
a. Selected student is Female student.
b. Selected student Blood group is A.
c. Selected student Blood group is not AB.
d. Selected student is Male and his Blood group is B.
e. Selected student is Female student or her Blood group is O.
f. Selected student Blood group is O given that he is male student.
2) Task 2
a. Reflect with a brief note at least five points, what you learned from the MOOC course "Sampling People, Networks and Records" ( Course Era). Enclose the screenshots of registration copy and your achievement in each level that how much you have completed. If you have completed the course, share the copy of the completion certificate.
b. Draw all possible samples of size 2 without replacement from the population (R+1), (R+2), (R+3), (R+4), (R+5) and (R+6). Then find the following:
i. Mean from the sampling distribution of sample means.
ii. Population mean.
3) Task 3
Abdullah has bought a television from Sony at a cost of 500 R.O. He has an option of buying an extended service warranty offering 2 years of coverage for 25 R.O. After discussing with his friends and reading reports, Abdullah believes the probabilities of following maintenance expenses could be incurred during the next 2 years.
a. Find the value of X.
b. Find the expected value of the anticipated maintenance costs.
c. Find E(Rx+5).
d. Find V(Rx-8).
4) Task 4
A worker earns (10+R) R.O per hour at a plant and is told that only (5+R) % of all workers make a higher wage. If the wage is assumed to be normally distributed and the standard deviation of wage rates is (5+R) R.O per hour.
a. Find the average wage for the plant workers per hour.
b. What is the probability that the worker earns less than (9+R) R.O per hour?
c. What is the probability that the worker earns more than (14+R) R.O per hour?
d. What is the probability that the worker earns between (12+R) and (16+R) R.O per hour?
