The amount was left blank because Maria was in a hurry. Maria signed a blank check and told Mark to fill out the check for $500. Mark needed to make an $800 car payment, so he wrote the check for $800 and cashed it at Maria's bank. Maria was upset when she found out about it. She broke up with Mark and demanded that he immediately pay her the $300 difference. Mark refused claiming Maria owed her more than that. Maria threatens to sue Mark for the $300.
