1. Many reasons exist why children attempt suicide. Those with chronic illnesses wish to remove pain and suffering. A person's quality of life certainly impacts suicidal ideations and behaviors. When a teenager experiences suicidal ideation, one of the first things we do is get them engaged in group therapy. Why? They feel lonely! If teenagers can build connections, even just one, they are less likely to engage in destructive behaviors. They want to feel important and accepted. Group therapy can quickly elicit these feelings. The adolescent can also begin working on skills to assist them in getting their needs met outside of the therapy room. Please include in-text citations and references.
