Many diseases which affect the cardiovascular system result from ion channel mutations. One example of this is Timothy syndrome where a mutation (G406R) in the alpha-subunit of L-type Ca2+ channels alters the inactivation properties of the L-type current which can lead to long QT syndrome and potentially fatal arrhythmia

In a computer practical a programme was used to simulate ionic currents in two cell lines, one of which expresses wild-type L-type channels and the other is expressing a mutant L-type channel which was suspected to have similar properties to the G406R mutation that causes Timothy syndrome. The task in the computer practical was to examine and measure some of the properties of this mutant and compare these with the wild-type current.

QUESTION: Suggest further experiments that could be done to assess the physiological effects of the G406R mutation on the heart.
