A manufacturing plant under federal jurisdiction employs 50 male and 30 female machine operators. The work performed by all employees requires a similar amount of skill, effort, and responsibility under similar working conditions. Females, however, are paid $5 less per hours than males. Is the manufacturing plant contravening a piece of legislation by paying females less than males? If so, what piece of legislation and section of that legislation is the plant contravening? Or, if you responded that the plant was not contravening a piece of legislation, please explain your decision.
