Aim:

a) To develop students' awareness and understanding of the contextual factors, both exogenous and endogenous, affecting strategic human resourcing decisions within multinational business organisations

b) To understand human resourcing issues and problems arising from the internationalisation of business, informed by theories and conceptual frameworks on international HRM and taking account of ethical factors

c) To critically examine the range of human resourcing strategies, procedures and practices that can contribute to the effective management of an international business organisation

d) To promote in students those skills and attributes required to deliver effective HRM analysis and solutions to diverse problems and issues in international organisations, embracing appreciation of social/ cultural diversity and the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Learning Outcome 1: Critically assess the factors influencing human resourcing decisions within multinational and international organisations and analyse implications for the development of HR strategy, procedure, and practice

Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the different options and choices in managing the human resourcing function within multinational organisations and their overseas subsidiaries

Learning Outcome 3: Make informed, analytical and ethical judgements on the management of human resources within multinational organisations.

Learning Outcome 4: Propose HR solutions that take account of the organisational issues, tensions and contradictions associated with managing human resources across national boundaries

Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the ability to operate as a key member of a management consultancy organisation

Learning Outcome 6: Utilise research skills in undertaking an assignment connected with the international management of HR and to present findings and strategic / operational recommendations in a managerial and persuasive style.

Business report

The individual assignmentrequires you to submit a short 1,000 word business report, which focuses on your contribution to the team's analysis of the case study material (Arcelor Mittal IHRM assessment brief) and proposals for the organisation's strategic decision makers.
Your report should take the form of a formal business report and include the following sections:

1. NBS Front Cover
2. Title
3. Table of Contents
4. Brief Introduction and Terms of Reference (~50 words)
5. Main Body
a. A succinct summary of the team's case (~100 words)
b. More detailed, critical discussion focused on your individual and specific contribution, including analysis and recommendations (~800 words)
6. Conclusion (~50 words)
7. References

The reports must include relevant theory and concepts, and referencing using Harvard style. Both the front matter (i.e. the NBS Front Cover, Title, and Table of Contents) and the end matter (the list of references) are excluded from the word count.
