Managing Diversity in a multi-generation workforce including Aging Workers, Gen X and Gen Z   

Select for any profit organization (company) to research. Look at its mission and values statements and then at its activities to determine what the organization is doing to live those statements. Your research must address the following questions:

  1. Do you believe the description given for each of the 4 traditional generations In the Rizzo case and the one given in Challenger, Grey for Generation Z are accurate? Do you see any differences in these generations in Thailand or other home country? Please state the evidence that supports your answer.
  2. Do people see life from the perspective of the generation they were born into, or are there other factors that shape life perspectives?
  3. Are personal values, perspectives and behaviors influenced more by generational cohort (peers) or by parents, extended family members and teachers who hail from different generations?
  4. How do world events, technology and trends shape generational perspectives? Is the "generation gap" something that has always influenced work relationships, or is this is the first time in history that four generations are present in the workplace? Does this amplify the effect of generational differences at work?

You can usually find an organization's mission and values statement on its web site, in its annual report or in press releases. You will have to dig deeper to find what others say about the organization. Glassdoor and linked in are two good sources, as well as other social media. Check the media. Look for lawsuits from employees, unhappy customers or activist groups. Look for the negative, but don't forget the positive. Are there testimonials from customers or awards for quality? Is the organization known for family-friendly policies? Is it listed as one of the "best companies to work?" Look at both sides.
