Managing Baggage Handling

A baggage handling system in a small airport receives bags with a distribution of EXP(5) seconds from 6am until 10pm. All bags must be inspected and approved before being placed on an aircraft. Upon check-in, baggage is carried to the inspection area via conveyor over a duration of UNIF(50,65) seconds. Of all baggage, 7% are randomly chosen for hand inspection by inspection staff and the rest are inspected by x-ray imaging by imaging staff.

Note that individual inspection staff are trained for one inspection role only. The hand inspection duration is TRIA(30,45,60) seconds and the x-ray imaging duration is UNIF(5, 15) seconds per unit baggage. After inspection, 0.1% of x-ray imaging bags are rejected and 0.15% of hand inspected bags are rejected and remain in the inspection zone. The rest are approved and carried to the baggage crew handling platform by another conveyor belt over a duration TRIA(45, 90, 120) seconds by a second conveyor system. Your simulation ends at the baggage crew handling platform. Conveyor systems are assumed to have infinite capacity. The baggage handling crew requires all approved bags to be placed on the baggage platform in less than 10 minutes from check-in. Run the simulation for 1 working day using various inspection staff combinations. Analyse the results obtained from running the simulation to make recommendations for the above baggage handling process.
