Nutrition is one of many factors that influence pregnancy outcome. Good nutrition during pregnancy is necessary to prevent problems such as: low weight, miscarriages, hypertension syndrome and others. The National Academy and Public Sciences made some recommendations for the population, this is known as Recommended Dietary Intake (RDA). This publishes the guidelines to avoid excess intake of nutrients.
1. What is the role of nursing in relation to the management of the nutrition of pregnant women.
a. Describe nutritional needs during conception, pregnancy, and dietary recommendations (nutrients) during pregnancy and lactation.
b. Describe how much weight the pregnant woman should gain, how the weight gain pattern should be, and the dangers that the pregnant woman may present if she is restricted in weight gain.
c. Illustrate the nutritional management of pregnant women, including the nursing estimate and diagnosis, dietary history, physical examination, laboratories, nursing diagnoses and results of care.
d. Describe nutritional needs during lactation and cultural influences and vegetarian diets.
e. Describe the management or interventions related to the different problems or discomfort during pregnancy, such as nausea and vomiting, constipation and heartburn.
