In the management literature, the notion of a SMART goal has been developed over the last 40 years or so. SMART is defined as:
Specific – target a specific area for improvement.
Measurable – quantify or at least suggest an indicator of progress.
Assignable – specify who will do it.
Realistic – state what results can realistically be achieved, given available resources.
Time-related – specify when the result(s) can be achieved.
Using what has been covered in class, and any reading you have done, discuss whether the SMART goal is appropriate for the use of systems engineering. As you are thinking about this question, remember the exercise poster....
