Assignment Objective
As a Database Administrator, to configure the database server, choose and apply skills relevant client/server environment and manage the data in an organization's business processes.
Assignment Tasks
1) Task 1 - Submit a work proposal for this assignment on or before 29/10/20, 23:59 Hrs. which must include:
• Understanding of deliverables - a detail description of deliverables.
• General overview of proposed plan - initial understanding of solution to task2 to task-5.
• Timeline for completion of the given tasks.
The work proposal must be submitted in a word file through the Turnitin link available in Moodle.
2) Task 2 - Consider an XYZ Hypermarket in the Sultanate of Oman. The hypermarket has got a lot of branches spread across different Wilayats in the country. As a database administrator, which client server architecture will you be preferring for this hypermarket and why. Support you answer with valid in-text citations and references.
3) Task 3: As a Database Administrator, provide the solutions for the following with a brief elaboration of each SQL command. Ensure to follow Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA) guidelines. SQL commands should be executed and screenshots should be included in the solution.
a. Create a tablespace with at least two optional features. The name of the tablespace should be appended with your name. Also explain the usage of the optional features that you have used.
b. Create a user and assign the tablespace created in task-3a. User should be given permission to perform the SQL commands given in task-3c.
c. For an XYZ hospital, create any two relevant tables of your choice, ensure that the table and the columns you choose are related with the organization. The tables must be satisfying the following criteria:
• Ensure to use overall at least four different datatypes like: char, date, int, timestamp, varchar etc.
• Demonstrate the usage of five data integrity constraints.
• Insert at least three relevant records in each of the two tables.
Note: Tables should be related to the chosen organization or scenario, marks shall be deducted for irrelevant tables and/or columns, and data. d. Choosing any one table created in the task-3c, demonstrate the usage of database object sequence. Solution must include the SQL commands to create the sequence and inserting at least two records using the sequence.
e. Write a SQL Query by using "JOIN" statement to create a view that will fetch data from both the database tables created by you above.
f. Create an Index for any one of the tables on two columns.
Note for all sub-tasks in task-3: You must include your name while naming the tablespace, user, tables, sequence and datafile. For example, if a student name is Ahmed, name of sequence can be Seq_Invoice_Ahmed. All the SQL commands should be copy pasted in the assignment word document, as well as provide a screenshot for the same.
Note for task-2 and task-3:
• For task-2 and task-3, you may use online tool or install RDBMS software.
4) Task 4: Discuss the different strategies that a good database administrator would be implementing for ensuring the complete backups, no data loss and full data recovery for the "Data Centre" department at Middle East College. Minimum 3 concepts are expected to be identified and explained. Support your answer with relevant literature review and in-text citations.
5) Task 5: Complete the given MOOC course and give reflection about the course covering the details on how it helped in enhancing your knowledge about the contents covered in the Module including your suggestions if any. The evidence of course completion needs to be provided for this task.
