It can be from last week or it can be new and do some background research. Then write up what you found out and include the sources where you found it - at this point it can be a link. At this point, you may be ready to decide to write a paper or do an experiment.

Does keeping something in your mind truly make one more susceptible to making decisions from our more 'lizard' brain? On the radio, I heard a report about how remembering just 2 numbers would increase the number of people who would choose chocolate cake over fruit salad.

It appears that remembering 7 numbers makes one twice as susceptible to eating chocolate cake as eating fruit salad. It appears that remembering numbers suppresses the ability of your cerebral front cortex to control the desire for cake. The ability of your prefrontal cortex to control the desires of the rest of the brain is affected by how tired one is, how hungry one is, and how many things are on one's "mind". There are many ways one can test willpower and the ability of one's prefrontal cortex to influence the decisions made.
