RSA encryption of a message M makes use of a public exponent e, a private exponent d and a modulus n. The basic encryption function (ignoring any pre-processing) is C = Me mod n and decryption function is M = Cd mod n. Suppose that instead of making n the product of two primes, modulus n is chosen simply to be a prime number. The main problem with this variant is:

Select one alternative:

  •  there is no single value of d for which the decryption function will work
  •  efficiency is worse because the Chinese Remainder Theorem cannot be used
  •  an attacker can easily find the private d value from the public e and n values

Briefly explain the answer.
