Other populations include men, LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisex-ual, transgender, queer and/or questioning) persons, couples and families, children and adolescents, persons with disabilities, and indigenous and ethnic communities with an eye to intersectionality.
This approach holds that multiple realities exist and individuals determine their own perceived truth. Clients have the opportunity to explore their beliefs and provide their own meanings. Problems are not within clients but, rather, are social, cultural, rela-tional, and political. Clients' cultural issues are an important part of their reality and clients pull these factors in as they want. Therapists learn from their clients and accept their worldviews, stories, and beliefs.
Many cultures focus on and value the family, with extended family sometimes being seen as important members of the family. Family therapy appeals to many from diverse cultural backgrounds, as the family is often considered the primary unit greater than the individ-ual members, and solutions to problems are often believed to exist within the family.
