Brief Essay: Backman in "Modernism: The Second Wave" (Chapter 25) explores some of the most well-known artists and works of the mid-20s and -30s. I'm not sure what to make of the "second wave." Using two (or three) of the artists, like Murnau and Virginia explain new ideas about the human condition that came from this generation.
