The goal is this assignment is to have you think strategically on what data would you need to make a decision on designing a product and what decisions will you make with that data.
I expect each question to be answered in a about 1-2 paragraph for each of the 4 sections I will be evaluating you on: Problem Solving, Structure, Prioritization, Creativity/Research. If you have addiitonal data to back up your answers, pleae add those as well. In general, I always appreciate data backed answers. The criteria/rubric on which I will be evaluating you is here.
Scenario:
You are the Product Manager for the Ford F-150 pickup truck which has been averaging about 900,000 vehicles sold each year. This is the most popular vehicle sold in the US. You are asked by your boss to now lead the recently announced Ford F-150 Lightning Pickup truck development. Your boss would like to know how many Ford F-150 Lightning do you expect to sell in the first year of launch.
1. Identify who are the customer segments that are likely to buy the Ford F-150 Lightning? Why?
2. What data would help you validate your hypothesis on the target segment, their needs and likelihood to buy? How will you get this data?
3. Based on this data, and your hypothesis of the target segment, how many Ford F-150 Lightning do you think will get sold after 1 year of launching?
4. What are the reasons why you may end up selling far fewer than what you have estimated?
Based on your recommendation, your boss who is the Chief Product Officer, has to make a decision about what product investments if at all, should she make in the Ford 150 Lightning to ensure the product is a success. What are the top product initiatives that the CPO should focus on for the 2023-24 financial year?
