Assignment Overview
This assignment is a portfolio of three frame analyses. You must provide three different 900-1100 word readings of a single frame, or sequence of frames (no more than four consecutive frames). You must use one scholarly reading to inform each analysis.
You may not use materials from the same week's list as those used in other frame analyses. Here is an example of a frame analysis - note, this is short, and does not cover course material: Princess Mononoke and Ecocinema and Annotated Frame analysis. if you have significant barriers to writing an assignment of this type, please discuss alternative submission options with me.
Assignment Requirements
For this assignment, you will provide three distinct detailed analysis of selected film stills. Your goal in doing this project will be to use particular approaches or theories from relevant readings to provide a comprehensive understanding of the frames in question.
NB: you don't (and shouldn't) attempt to make an analysis of entire films from a single frame/sequence of frames. You may use materials from any given week covered so far in class, but you may not use material from the same week as those used in previous frame analyses. You may not duplicate films, readings, or approaches within this assignment. This will result in a fail for the analysis with doubled content. Eg: if you write on Preyin any of the previous frame analyses, or another analysis in this Portfolio, you may not cover Preyor any material from Week 7 again. You may cover the same film as in your Presentation if you like, but you must use a different approach and generate different content.
• Your films must be chosen from the films discussed in class or a film from the Recommended Viewing list from that week
• Your reading must be chosen from the readings discussed in class or a reading from the
Recommended: list from the same week as from another week, please email me and we can discuss if the reading is appropriate for the given film.
• You must choose a single frame for each analysis, and your argument must pertain to that frame. This frame (or sequence of no more than four frames) must appear at the top of your paper.
o If you wish to analyze movement, editing, or similar, you may choose no more than four sequential frames - this means frames that immediately follow each other in the film, with no gaps.
• This assignment must be in complete sentences, and use APA formatting and citation.
