Pretend that you are a citizen of a neutral polis during the outbreak of the Peloponnesian War in 431 BCE. Your polis must decide what side to join, Sparta or Athens.

You will have to make a speech in front of your polis' ekklesia to defend your position. Who do you choose and why? Your response should consider the structure (social, political, economic), culture and ethos of Sparta and Athens and their activities over the course of the 5th c. BCE.
