A mining company is assessing two sites to determine their suitability for mining. A sample from each sites has been sent to the lab for analysis These samples have been prepared by leaching a representative ore sample from each site with sulphuric acid to bring Cu2+ ions into solution.

Your task is to analyse one copper ore solution and answer the following questions:

  1. What assumptions are we making in this analysis regarding the other components present in the unknown ore test solution?
  2. For the mine to be profitable the test solution must have a concentration greater than 5 g/L. From your results, make a recommendation to the company: is this a viable mining site?
