Question: Make a list of five specific HR problems you think Carter Cleaning will have to grapple with. Recruiting new hires: Jack and Jennifer operate six cleaning centers, with an average of 7 employees and 1 on-site manager per center. Making sure each center is properly staffed could be a challenge. Training and compliance: Hiring enough employees to run their business is one thing, but ensuring each employee is properly trained is a challenge in itself. Retaining employees: If the time, money, and resources will be spent hiring/training employees, it would be a good business practice to ensure those employees are retained. Following health and safety regulations: Six entirely operated cleaning centers can undoubtedly have health and safety violations occur at a moment's notice. Leadership development: Jack and Jennifer must trust and empower their managers to do their job well. 1-22. What would you do first if you were Jennifer? If I were Jennifer, I would introduce myself to the staff members while learning their job. I want to establish a positive employee-to-employer relationship. I would then host a meeting with all of the managers - food and beverages provided, of course - to review the cleaning center's performance, encourage open and honest dialogue about the morale of the employees, and listen to suggestions for company improvement, while also giving constructive criticism to areas needed.
