Problem

Maria, 62, brought her husband Luis, 65 and a combat veteran, to your wellness agency for treatment of alcohol abuse since his retirement. Their 42-year-old son, Raul recently returned home after a divorce. Maria and her son historically had a close attachment because Maria often relied on Raul for emotional support when Luis was deployed.After retiring, Luis feels like he is in competition with his son for his wife's attention. Now that he is retired, he looks forward to spending time with his wife. Just the two of them. He misses the activities they once enjoyed before his deployments-long walks, picnics at the park, and going to movies together.Furthermore, Luis feels guilty because he had not been there for his son while having been a father figure to many of his young soldiers and even mentoring some while serving on combat missions. He explains how he's been struggling with loneliness and depression because retirement isn't what he expected. He had always been a social drinker, but now he's drinking to the extent that he needs alcohol in the morning to feel good. He needs to drink more in order to get the desired effects and his son has made comments about his drinking. Luis is willing to be assessed.
