Before WWII, the political power structure was defined by military might and domination over territories countries were trying to maintain. Even trade was also subject to military power. For example, fight for resources, territories, and joining hands to safeguard trade interests in the areas of their interests. Colonizers from Europe, Japanese expansions, Ottomans (Although fell after WW1), Russians, and Europe internal power struggle.
However, since WWII, the overall political structure has changed on the global stage. Colonies were abolished gradually, new alliances formed, and a new form of power structures emerged. Countries no longer want to control territories by force. Economic domination and exploitation took a new shape. Global politics is driven by economic alliances rather than military compatibilities. Companies are weather than countries and capable to influence local and internal political horizons. Such as Chinese trade domination, G8 and G20s, the role of companies like Facebook, Google, Samsung, Amazon, Alibaba, etc.
