BUS401:Term Assignment/Research Project #2, Marking Criteria, Class List and Assigned Topic, and a Framework/Formatting for the Written Report-Winter 2022.
Below are the highlights and guidelines related to the second independent term assignment,
(1) Term Assignment/Research Project #2: Value, Submission date, and Objectives
As a part of the course evaluation scheme, assignment # 2, like assignment #1, is worth 25% of the final grade. The final research report is due during the week of April 4 - 9, and more specifically, the submission deadline is Midnight (11:59 PM) on Saturday, April 9, 2022.
The main purpose of the assignment is to develop a strong foundation of business research and writing skills that will, hopefully, serve you in your academic and professional career, especially you will:
- Practice working on a research project that involves collecting information about a specific Canadian-based business firm and crafting a professional-looking business report
- Learn about the resources of both Seneca Library, the internet, and other resources including your own
- Familiarize yourself with the management and operations of real-world business including the management of human resources and the multiple organizational environments, together with the various challenges facing Canadian business
(2) Marking Criteria for the Term Project
The written assignment report will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
1) Introduction: Does the introduction orient the reader to the subject matter of the project? Has the purpose and organization been given clearly and concisely?
2) Amount of Material: Are there sufficient facts, material, quotations, and research to support the argument?
3) Organization: Is there a table of contents? Are there headings and sub-headings? Is the organization logical? Has the main theme been maintained throughout?
4) Conclusion: Does the report ends with a good summary of the findings and/or the important points? Is it concise and effective?
5) Footnotes/Bibliography: Are footnotes and bibliographical material accurately made use of?
6) Mechanics, Syntax, and Grammar: Are there careless errors in expression, grammar, spelling, and typing? Are sentences, phrases, or clauses properly constructed?
7) Total Effect: Does the assignment effectively demonstrate analytical and evaluative skills? Does it contribute to our understanding of the issue under consideration and relate to topics covered in the course?

(4) Framework for the Written Report:
When preparing an assignment report pertaining to a Canadian or a Canadian-based firm, the following four aspects/areas should be included and/or address:
1) Basic information about the company including a historical background and scope of geographical operations
2) Quantitative aspects pertaining to the company, such as total employment, revenues, profitability, contributions to the economy and society, strategic plan (if available), and research and development of human resources activities
3) Challenges and prospects
4) Relevance to course material and/or topics covered in the course
