An ideal, massless spring with spring contant kmL = 120 N/m hangs from the ceiling. When a block of mass 1 = 1 kg is attached to the end of the spring and the system is allowed to reach equilibrium, the length of the spring is 1 = 0.5 m.

a. What is the magnitude of the force by the spring on the block, in N?

b. An extra mass of 2.0 kg is added at the bottom. Find the new length of the spring, in m.

c. We add a third mass, so the TOTAL mass at the end of the spring is now 17 kg. What is the new length of the spring, in m?
