Based on your reading of the various chapters from Silent Violence discuss, with suitable examples (a) the nature and magnitude of malaria as a global health problem, (b) why you believe it makes more sense to approach malaria as a disease of global poverty and structural inequalities rather than purely as a mosquito- borne infectious disease, (c) using suitable data/information/case studies explain why the persistence of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa and specifically in Tanzania, is indicative of structural violence, social suffering, gender inequality and women's social and economic marginalization, and (d) most importantly, as a student of medical anthropology, what would you argue needs to be done to reduce the burden of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa and to achieve the laudable goal of global malaria eradication in the next 20 years.
