Data Analysis Assignment
Aim - Assess the students' understanding of topics in economics and data presentation, analysis and interpretations skills.
Learning Outcome 1: Critically source economic and business data and use information technology and software packages for business and economic applications;
Learning Outcome 2: Analyse, present and discuss economic and business data;
Learning Outcome 3: Adopt a logical and structured approach to the consideration and analysis of individual, organisational and societal problems;
Learning Outcome 4: Use quantitative and logical techniques to propose feasible solutions to a variety of elementary, discipline-relevant problems, accounting for the needs and objectives of affected constituencies;
Learning Outcome 5: Work and think independently, evaluate evidence and maintain /develop an argument or hypothesis.
Task:
National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) Oman, The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Open Data are renowned and reliable sources of free and open access national/global developmental datasets available to students, academics and researchers around the world. This data and datasets are downloadable in the popular data formats like the excel sheets (.xlsx), comma separated values (.csv), extensible mark-up language (.xml) etc. The task
in this coursework is based on data that the students have to download, perform a descriptive analysis and bring forth the useful economic/demographic/developmental information based on the data(set).
Download and Analyse Any One of the following data (A to E) available on International Monetary Fund or The World Bank or National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) Oman website(s):
A. Mobile Cellular Subscriptions Data in countries around the world.
B. The GDP & GDP Growth Data.
C. Forest Cover as a percentage of total area of the country.
D. Population Growth in various regions.
E. Access to Electricity.
This analysis should be presented in form of a report and submitted through the Blackboard on or before the due date for the submission. The report structure and the associated guidelines are given below in this descriptor.
Report Structure and Guidelines
1. A properly typed report must be submitted for this coursework. The report should have the following structure:
Title page, Acknowledgements, Abstract, Introduction, the part of spreadsheet containing analysis of the given data with appropriate charts and a brief write-up around 1000 words, detailing the findings from the given data, conclusions, references list, appendix (if any), etc.
2. Use appropriate tools like Google Sheets/ MS Excel or any related computer tool that has been learnt over the course of the module for performing the analysis of the data.
3. The style and presentation of the report content should be as -: font size -12 (body text), font face - Arial and paragraph spacing - single line spacing and titles and headings as felt appropriate. Use appropriate headings styles where required.
4. Proper Harvard referencing, as per CCE Harvard style, should be followed through indicative readings, standards, regulations, bye laws, figures, diagrams, tables and charts, etc. relevant to the coursework.
5. Course work and reports should be done individually and submitted on time. Please note NU- COE Late submission policy would be applicable for late submissions.
6. Course work should be submitted in pdf format with an appropriate cover page which must include the student and coursework details: - Name, student identification and title of the course work to be written clearly and legibly on the cover page.
7. The completed course work is to be submitted online through SafeAssign provided on CCE Learn on or before the 11:59 pm deadline for the submission day. Late submission without any valid reasons will not be accepted or an appropriate penalty would be applied.
