Question

Per Ko (2023), LPNs are usually not authorized to make care plans, triage patients, or perform health assessments; whereas RNs are permitted to do so. Licensed practical nurses only spend one year in nursing school, while a registered nurse will attend for 2-4 years. The ANA (2015), breaks advanced practice registered nurses into four categories, NPs, CRNAs, midwives and clinical nurse specialists. APRNs may treat and diagnose various diseases, APRNs may also manage these diseases. APRNs start out with their RN license and advance with at least their masters degree.

The American Nurses Association (2015), defines education as something an RN should continually pursue in their practice, along with futuristic thinking. Professional development in nursing is meant to improve the competence of the nurse. Barbara et. al (2022), states that nursing professional development is designed to support collaboration, guide clinical practice and make patient care better as a whole. RNs usually complete their professional development through continuing education credits that are required to renew an RN license. Professional development can also consist of being trained in a new skill, furthering your education or receiving a certificate that pertains to your field.
