Case Study - Patient Profile: Mary is a 70-year-old woman receiving home care from the local Community Care Services to treat a lower leg ulcer diagnosed as a venous lower leg ulcer. Mary, originally from Vietnam, moved to Australia with her husband and three children when she was 45 years old. While Mary can understand most spoken English, her ability to speak English is limited and sometimes challenging to comprehend. She resides in a granny flat beneath her daughter's house with her husband, Quan Dao. The current ulcer is on her left leg and has persisted for approximately two months. A Community Registered Nurse visits Mary thrice weekly to assess and dress the ulcer. Recently, the ulcer has become infected, resulting in moderate exudate and pain. Mary's self-esteem has been affected, causing her to stay home more frequently and feel reluctant to go out. Using a person-centred approach describe and discuss the assessments and care planning you would provide for the client in your chosen case study, to help improve their health, quality of life and participation in society/social interactions. Include in your discussion communication strategies that you would use with specific considerations in relation to the client's culture and linguistic background.
