John, 17, recently lost his father to cancer. John was also recently caught stealing from the family's liquor cabinet. He explained to his mother that drinking was one way to cope with the loss of his father. John, an avid collector of sports memorabilia, recently tried to give away parts of his collection to one of his friends. While most of John's friends are excited about attending college in the fall, John cannot picture himself going to school or having a bright future. John confided to his girlfriend that he feel hopeless and has considered "putting a bullet through his head."

What are the risk factors for suicide that are associated with this case? Please explain in detail.
