Mr. Issler found himself in need of care beyond his capabilities when the effects of several co-morbidities presented. Jean Watson developed carative factors which are a part of the theory of transpersonal care. The carative factors of transpersonal care establish a trusting relationship built on faith and hope for positive health outcomes (Cara, n.d). The ten "caritas" Watson referred to were defined as:
