You work in a long term care facility that has 5 resident units. Each unit has the capacity or 43 residents. Your current staff to patient ratio is 2 lpn's per unit. The lpn's follow primary nursing framework the divide the unit in half and provide medication administration, woundcare, pick up MD orders, documention for required daily nursing notes and specific detailed weekly evaluations. Thy also over see the cna's on the unit and make the cna's assignment at the beginning of the shift. Recently one unit secretary resigned, leaving only one in the facility to provide clerical work for all 5 units, she has to make appointments, refill unit supplies and answer phone calls and file. Now the unit lpn's have taken on some of those responsibilities. You find this delivery model is causing a delay in documentation and would like to implement a new nursing framework called Task nursing. The new Framework involves having one lpn responsive for medication administration and picking up orders and the other lpn will be at the desk to handle all resident documentation, answer phone calls, make the unit assignment and resident appointments and do the treatments.
