It is important to have Integrity, to show honesty and truthfulness through our relationships, education, work and among other things in our everyday lives. Integrity is regarded as showing a consistent commitment to ethical values through our actions. In the university setting, it is very critical that we learn the practices of references as we learn and develop academic writing skills, such as APA referencing. It allows us to acknowledge the contribution other authors and researchers, giving recognition to the writers of their words and ideas that we borrow to add in our assignments. It is important that we use citations in our assignments when drawing certain words and ideas from other writers. If we fail to use referencing in our assignments, it can result to an act of plagiarism, which can lead to serious consequences. From Virk's article, we learn that the U.K. government and university regulators are looking to "tighten the rules regarding academic fraud" (Virk. 2017). Students would be charged with a fine and would end up with a mark on their record, even services that helped student plagiarize will be charged with "aiding or enabling for financial gain individuals to commit acts of academic dishonesty" (Virk. 2017). If students take the time to reference our work, they will not have to deal with long repercussions of a criminal record.
