"Logistics, a channel within the supply chain that contributes time & place value
The major channels of the supply chain each give unique economic value to the products or services that move through the supply chain, and there are associated functional areas of each channel that are the nexuses wherein products and services are transformed. Although functional areas are pinpointed to one or another channel because of the primary value that they help instill, there is interaction and cross-functionality between channels, e.g. customer service, is a functional areas of the same name, same purpose, but different specific content, found in virtually every channel.
The Logistics Channel instills time and place utility in products and/or services as they are respectively moved or delivered through the full extension of the supply chain. Here are some of the functional areas, or "sub-channels," that help instill time and place value. It is important to remember that full value is not completed by the channel, i.e. full time and place utility is not had, until the product or service is delivered to its ultimate destination.
