Determine Fire Protection Requirements

Secure Access to Existing Buildings

This task requires you to secure access to existing buildings for you to inspect. Specifically, you are required to:
• Secure access to at least one existing class 2, 3, or 9 building
• Secure access to at least one existing class 5, 6, 7, or 8 building
The buildings whose access are secured in this task will be used in future tasks.
Steps to take:
1. Locate the Existing Building Confirmation form provided for you on the following pages.
The Existing Building Confirmation form will be used to confirm the buildings you will be accessing whose fire protection requirements you will be inspecting.
Review the instructions here and in the Existing Building Confirmation form with your supervisor before starting so you can prepare for the tasks.
2. Seek assistance from your supervisor to do the following:
i. Secure access to three buildings, at least one of each must be:
a. A Class 2, 3, or 9 building, and
b. A Class 5, 6, 7, or 8 building
You will need access to these three buildings so that you can assess each building's compliance with the fire protection requirements in your state or territory, which will be done in Task 3.2.
All three buildings must be a Class 2, 3, or 9 building and a Class 5, 6, 7, or
8 building.
ii. Schedule a visit to the identified buildings.
3. Visit each building to take a picture of the exterior of each building.
The exterior must include the building's entrance.
4. Using the Existing Building Confirmation form, document the following information:
i. The classification of each building
ii. One picture of the exterior of each building

5. Have your supervisor review your completed Existing Building Confirmation form. Your supervisor must also complete and sign the Supervisor Declaration at the end of the form. Their signature must be handwritten.
