Question

Potential problems that may arise when a patient is on parenteral nutrition include infection, liver disease, and metabolic complications. Infection can occur at the site of the catheter, so it's important to maintain strict aseptic technique when handling the catheter. Liver disease can occur due to the high glucose content in the TPN solution, so regular monitoring of liver function tests is necessary. Metabolic complications can include hyperglycemia, electrolyte imbalances, and refeeding syndrome. Therefore, regular monitoring of blood glucose levels and electrolytes is crucial.
