Question

Life span is the maximum number of years an individual from a given species can live and life expectancy is the average number of years a person can expect to live. Some of the ways we can close the gap between life expectancy and life span are through healthier living, less exposure to toxins, and the prevention of chronic illnesses. However, public policy also plays a part. For instance, right now in the United States our average life expectancy is on the decline and, out of all the world's developed countries, the United States has a lower life expectancy than most, in spite of the fact that we spend more on health care than any of these other nations. What are some reasons for this disparity and what are some ways our society can address it?
