Assessment Task: Literature Review on Repatriate Management
A high-quality literature review is an essential component of academic research, serving as a thorough and critical examination of the current state of knowledge on a specific topic. It effectively combines various sources to identify patterns, themes, disputes, and gaps in existing research, providing a comprehensive synthesis that not only encapsulates prior studies but also highlights the significance of the research question, paving the way for further investigation. This review should demonstrate the researcher's profound understanding of the subject matter, illustrating how their work contributes to and advances the scholarly dialogue. The purpose of this literature review is to analyse the existing research on repatriate management and provide a comprehensive overview of the key challenges and best practices in this area.
Objectives:
To familiarise with the key challenges and best practices in repatriate management.
To assess the students' ability to review, synthesize, and critically analyse relevant literature on repatriate management.
Task description:
Students are required to:
(1) Identify and review a minimum of 10 relevant academic journals sources on repatriate management. You can use a variety of search engines, such as Google Scholar, ProQuest, and JSTOR, to find relevant literature.
(2) Synthesise and analyse the information gathered from your literature review. Identify key challenges and best practices in repatriate management, including but not limited to:
The challenges faced by repatriates during the re-entry process;
The impact of cultural differences on repatriation;
Best practices for supporting repatriates during and after the re-entry process;
Strategies for ensuring knowledge transfer and the retention of repatriates;
The role of HR professionals and line managers in the repatriate management process.
(3) Analyse the gaps in the existing literature on repatriate management, including areas that have not been extensively researched or areas where the research has produced inconsistent or contradictory results. Consider the following:
Topics that have not been thoroughly explored or have received limited attention in the existing literature;
Emerging trends or developments in repatriate management that have not been widely researched;
Unique or underrepresented groups of repatriates, such as those returning to developing countries or those with non-traditional career paths.
Based on the gaps you identify, you can suggest specific topics or areas for future research and propose potential research questions that could help to fill these gaps. It is important to be critical and thoughtful in your analysis, drawing on the literature you have reviewed to support your arguments and recommendations.
(4) Provide clear and concise recommendations for organisations to improve their repatriate management practices based on the best practices identified in the literature.
Guidelines:
Follow a report format (report title and abstract is required for this assignment).
The literature review should be between 2,800-3,000 words, excluding the references list and abstract.
