Assessment Task
The assessment will test the following learning outcomes:
- Understand the advanced theory and practice of auditing practice and procedures.
- Critically evaluate current issues relating to auditing and the regulation of audits
- Understand and critically analyse the impact of recent developments in corporat governance.
Task 1. Requires 1200 words
The corporate governance reports of the 118 Omani listed companies are available for public on the website of Muscat Securities Market.
Examine the corporate governance report of a selected public listed company to ascertain the compliance of the company with the Code of corporate governance for public listed companies in the sultanate of Oman (2016) - principle 10: Audit Committee and Internal Controls.
Write a report based on your findings where you:
- Present the main requirements of the principle 10: Audit Committee and Internal Controls, about the composition, specific requirements and tasks assigned to the audit committee.
- Critically evaluate the implementation of the above requirements in the selected company.
- Critically analyse the rationale of the implementation of the audit committee in listed companies.
Task 2. Requires 800 words
According the principle 1 of the Code of Corporate Governance for Public Listed Companies in Sultanate of Oman (2016), "The purpose of Corporate Governance is to set out processes by which corporates are controlled and directed to create efficient enterprises contributing to building a strong, transparent and competitive national economy".
As the board of directors is a very important corporate governance mechanism, its roles vary according to the theoretical perspective.
Critically evaluate the different roles of the br. vti of thiectors according to the different research theories.
Task 1. To write his report, the student is invited to:
Visit the website of Muscat Securities Market. And select a corporate governance report of one listed company among of the 118 Omani listed companies (them reports are available for public) on the website.
Each student must ensure that he selected a different company from his colleagues.
Task 2.
- The student is invited to suggest a literature review about the roles of the board of directors according to the different research theories discussed in the class.
