After listening to the podcast discuss a few key topics that stood out to me.

I learned that there are five levels of awareness. The level of awareness that stood out to me was the relaxed state. The fact that we are relaxed which most of us are during our drive meant that we are still watching and paying attention while we are driving, but in a relaxed state and this level of awareness is the least physically draining.

Bolstering the manager relationship within the the work place can have a great impact of the employee. This is when the manager ask their employees how they're doing and to be observant and aware of your employees mental and physical status. If you see the employee is struggling then you should step in and offer them resources to use. This is a wonderful approach to workplace safety because many mangers are too busy to pay attention to their employees and I think if they took their time out to actually get to know their workers it could build a great dynamic within the workplace.

The next topic that meant something to me goes hand and hand with the statement above. Creating a transformational leader who really cares about their employees well being. The type of leader who really doesn't just chase numbers or goes around scrutinizing their employees. A transformational leader would benefit every organization.

The future of safety leadership should move more towards the leader having a passion for people. The future of technology would be giving the company minute by minute updates on their employees. This would be something that is suppose to offer a positive experience within the company and for the employee. This future technology is not meant to be developed to use against the employee such as spying and then getting repremanded.

Lastly, The leader really needs to be in tuned with the environment they are creating. If someone comes to the leader and has a concern their job is to really listen to what is stressing the employee out and take notes on how they think this situation could be made better.

These newly learned concepts come in really handy when thinking about ways to make a work environment a better place. I think that listening to peoples concerns and trying to address them is important.

Many of us in the healthcare field know that we work most days understaffed, over worked and maybe even underpaid! There have been so many times I have seen nursing staff approach the manager regarding their concern for their safety and those of their patients because their patient to nurse ratio is too high. The number of times I have heard well the staffing numbers say you can have up to 8!! The managers don't want to hear the complaints because they go by the ratio set by the state. This is one area I think this model of transformational leaders should listen to the concerns and report back to whoever sets these ratios and truly advocate for their staff instead of brushing it off that they're complaining. I don't remember the exact number but i think CNA's are 1 CNA to 20 patients! how can one person give proper care to 20 patients! We should be able to approach our manager and feel comfortable saying how we feel and feel like we are being heard. If more places had a transformational leader as described in this podcast some hostile work environments would be a much better place to be an employee.
