In this unit, you will write an Informative work based on an issue related to the story you told in your Narrative work

This unit involves learning how to research and write an informative work

Although informative writing does not share personal stories or opinions, most writers enjoy researching and writing about topics that interest them. If you look back at your narrative work you will see that several potential Informative topics are related to the story you told in that work. The worksheet below will help you review your narrative work so that you can identify some potential topics for your informative work.

What is Informative Writing?

1) Informative writing explains, informs, and describes.
2) Informative writing does not share personal stories or personal opinions.
3) It shares information objectively.
4) Your job as a writer is to educate yourself with accurate and reliable information and then share that information in your work.
You are probably already familiar with informative writing. It is all around us every day.

Think of:

1) Instruction sheets or how-to guides, like this one on lawn management in Oklahoma City,
2) Articles that explain concepts like Sustainable Agriculture,
3) Information about programs like conversation efforts at the Oklahoma City Zoo, or
4) Informative news articles like this one: 76-days Under Water, Florida Professor Breaks World Record for Science.

Part B

Step I: Complete the "Informative work Topic Planning Worksheet." You do not have to submit the worksheet but you will need to complete it to prepare for this activity.

Step II: Follow the prompt below to complete this activity. Numbering the items in your post will help your classmates and your instructor. You can also copy and paste the writing prompt into your initial post.
