Problem: Collecting Evidence Course Project
On May 11, 2019, at around 1:53 am, police responded to a 9-1-1 call for a shooting that occurred in the 2000 block of Plow Lane, Chesapeake, VA, 23324.
Upon arrival, officers located a victim, later identified as 34-year-old Jarmel Perkins, lying on the street where he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Initial investigation by the responding officers revealed that there had been a large house party nearby.
When the victim arrived at the party, an argument turned deadly. You are the detective assigned to this case. You have been called to the scene; what do you do?
Instructions: You have secured the scene and separated the witnesses. Now, it's time to collect and preserve evidence.
For Part 3 of your Course Project, you will submit a 1-2-page paper that includes the following:
List at least three types of evidence you might find at this crime scene.
For each, detail the steps by which you will: (i) locate, (ii) collect and (iii) protect/preserve each piece of evidence.
Compare and contrast the evidence handling procedures used during the OJ investigation with those you intend to use for the evidence in your investigation. List at least 3 things you would do differently or "lessons learned" from mistakes made in the OJ investigation.
