One month has passed since Julie Mok started her first job with the international insurance company ASACURA International. This is her fulltime job since she graduated with Bachelor degree in Business Administration. Julie role at ASCURA was described to her as being part of an international Human Resource team that from day one, would work on several projects with a lot of responsibility. The first project Julie has been assigned to work on is a recruiting event for undergraduate management students. She had been introduced to the team she'll be working with on the project; they are all very experienced recruiters. The first week of her team work experience was very exciting whereby Julie was impressed by how much experienced the other five of team members had in the first meeting, they communicated openly and told Julie that they had been working together for long time and that they knew each other very well. Initially she found that it very helpful and to join a team with a string culture and a very structured approach to working together. However, after the first couple of weeks in the team, she found it increasingly difficult to work with her team members/colleagues whereby she found that it is difficult to introduce/suggest new ideas. Despite her growing anxiety about the team, Julie persists in suggesting new ideas, but last week, the leader of the team, Harry Mines asked Julie to have one-to one talk, and said with calm and very firm voice "Julie, I am sorry to say, but you have to integrate yourself more into the group and we expect you to listen carefully or otherwise this will get very difficult for all of us since most of the team members have been working together for nearly 8 years, we have so much experience and are expert in organizing an event". Since then, Julie has lost a lot of her initial enthusiasm for the project and feels a lot of pressure and thinking all weekend about to do list for the projects and how to react to Harry's comments. Julie become more upset when she had overheard a conversation between Harry and Enrique (other team member) whereby Harry threatened to tell the head of Human Resource (HR) that Enrique sometimes leaves the office earlier, in response to urgent family issues. It was quite clear to Julie what that meant-the head of HR was the team's disciplinary supervisor. Julie became more upset and feel very stressful after this happened last week and decided to share her problems with her best friend Anna. Anna has just responded, "I know exactly what you are talking about, we have a similar situation in my workplace, the most important we got to do is we have to learn how we can respond to those situations". Julie really likes talking to Anna and often feels a lot better afterwards. Julie starts to think about all the positive aspects of her work. With this in mind, Julie feels that she can overcome her difficulties in the current project teams and also knows for her personal wellbeing that she needs to find strategies to cope with her present situation.
