Question

How does her level of physical activity impact her health status? Sarah is a 33-year old teacher with Crohn's disease. Sarah recently got married, but does not get to spend a lot of time with her new husband, as he works the night shift at the local factory. She has recently been experiencing a great deal of abdominal pain, bloating, and occasional nausea and diarrhea. Physical exam shows abdominal distention, tenderness with rebound and guarding. The physician suspects a moderate distal small-bowel stricture. A blood test reveals the following values: Alb 3.0, Hct 35, Hgb 11, Ca 8.4, Mg 1.0, K 3.4, WBC 10,000. She has been taking a corticosteroid, Remicade, and Metronidazole. She also takes a multivitamin/mineral supplement, 1000 mg fish oil, and a valerian supplement daily. Sarah is 5 ft. 6 in. and weighs 112 lb. She has been under a lot of stress lately, as her school has been going through administrative changes and her 6th grade class has been "acting up" a lot. She tries not to eat much until evening to minimize.
