In the wake of the 9/11 Attacks, in the United States and other countries, legislators implemented laws to prevent such an attack from occurring again in the United States and other countries. The USA PATRIOT Act (the United and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act) was put into law and it gave law enforcement the tools they needed to combat and identify potential terrorists. This was replaced in 2015 when the USA FREEDOM (Uniting and Strengthening America by Fulfilling Rights and Ensuring Effective Discipline Over Monitoring) Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama. This is covered in Chapter 3.
