In the last lecture we discussed various issues related to deviance and social control. The first thing I'd like to know is which criminological theory do you think best explains how deviance is produced in our American society? Do you think strain theory provides the best explanation or maybe social disorganization theory provide the most reasonable explanation. Provide you answer and elaborate on what brought to that conclusion. We also discussed punishment and social control during this lecture. I'd like to know what do you believe should be the primary reason why we punish deviant or criminal individuals? Should it be to rehabilitate them, or maybe for retribution. Should the primary reason for punishment be social control or deterrence, tell me what you think and why?
