Sam owns a small organisation called, Agile Technologies that has 15 employees. He is considered to be an extremely conscientious employee who cares very deeply about his employees. Recently you have been hired by Sam to take over the HRM activities for this organisation. In a discussion with Sam, you have been given to understand that the company is doing well for itself and it estimates to see profits as high as 25% in the coming to three years.
An aspect of consideration here is that 7 out of these 15 employees are very close to their retirement age and they would be leaving the organisation in the next two years. The remaining seven belong to diverse age groups and backgrounds and don't seem as committed as the older employees.
Going along in the discussion, Sam shares a few ideas and concerns with you. He expresses that he would now like to introduce telecommuting as a practice in the organisation but he is not show if letting employees work from home for 2 out of 5 days in a week would be an effective strategy. His main worry lies with respect to motivating the employees as they work from home.
Further, Sam has also informed you that he is now considering on cutting down the benefits that are being offered over and above the salary to the employees. He also believes that all the employees should now be placed on contractual basis instead of being full time, but he isn't sure if this will be a right move.
Question:
Explain the major challenges that you see for this organisation in the next 2 to 3 years. What suggestions would you like to make to Sam with respect to all his ideas and concerns?
