Question

Participants were recruited and told that they would be part of a learning experiment and were randomly assigned to groups. Some participants were told that they were going to receive painful electric shocks, and the other group was told that the electric shocks would produce a tingling sensation. No shock was actually used. While the experimenter was setting up the (fake) shock machine, participants were given a choice of whether they wanted to wait alone, or wait with others.
