"Subcultures exist in all organizations of any size." (Heskett, 2012) This does not just mean companies with multiple offices in different states or countries, it could be as "simple" as departments within the same organization.

Effectively training personnel to work with subcultures within a single organization or a global organization requires an understanding of cultural diversity, communication dynamics, and intercultural competence. Here are the top factors to consider when training individuals for such roles.

Overcoming cultural biases and stereotypes are some of the main challenges of cultural awareness and sensitivity. Trainees should learn about cultural backgrounds, customs, values, and norms of the subcultures they will interact with. Remind trainees of the importance of effective communication, including verbal and non-verbal cues, which can vary widely across cultures. Be mindful of your gestures during virtual meetings because something as simple as a thumbs-up sign may mean approval in some countries, but it can be offensive or vulgar in others. Managing and collaborating within diverse teams requires an understanding of different work styles, leadership expectations, and group dynamics. Training new personnel on the benefits of having diverse teams and how to harness utilize the strengths of individuals from different backgrounds can be extremely beneficial.

Incorporating these factors into training programs and "Educational programs combined with cross-cultural team assignments can be a particularly effective way to bridge cultural gaps." (Heskett, 2012) Continuous learning and cultural intelligence development should also be encouraged to adapt to evolving cultural dynamics and maintain successful intercultural relationships.
