Julie is working in a group in Professor Simons' Organizational Behavior class. On the first day of class, she is assigned to a group of 5 members including herself for a group project that the professor describes as learning from each other about the course concepts and also learning how best to work in and lead groups. When Julie first got together with her group, she tried to introduce herself and encouraged others to do the same. The rest of the group seemed reluctant but ended up introducing themselves with little energy. When Julie talked about dividing the workload and assigning parts, none of her group members were really paying attention to her and were on their phones or zoning out. She gathers her teammates' email addresses and sends a scheduling survey for a meeting. Only 2 group members complete it, and one of the others suggests the team simply work virtually to get the assignment done, as they are all busy.

Julie doesn't have a good feeling about all this and is wondering what she should do to optimize her team's performance and their learning about leadership and teamwork.
